Message From Principal CCIT

Dear Citizens of Delhi

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the website of Pr. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Delhi Region. I hope that this website will be a useful interface to ease the interactions and cooperation between the citizens of Delhi and the Income Tax Department of the Delhi Region.

Over the past 10 years, direct tax collection for the Delhi Region has almost tripled from Rs 56,576.3 cr. during FY 2008-09 to Rs 160,801.6 cr. during FY 2018-19. In the past two financial years i.e during FY 2017-18 and 2018-19, Delhi Region has grown at an impressive rate of 21 % and 23 % respectively.

I attribute the growth in revenue collection to primarily two phenomenons. Firstly, there have been several policies introduced by the Government of India to spur economic activities and per capita income in the country. Secondly, and quite significantly, it is the introduction of technology in not only the Income Tax Department but also the economy at large e.g. banking channels, digitization of transactions etc. Such developments have made it much easier for the tax payers to comply with the provisions of Income Tax Act, right from deduction of TDS to filing of returns etc. The introduction of technology has also implied that the Income Tax Department has access to precise and actionable information to prevent tax evasion and enforce tax laws.

The increased revenue potential of the Delhi Region is a sign of the overall growth and prosperity of the Delhi Region at large. I congratulate and thank all the citizens of Delhi who have shared their prosperity for the common good and contributed towards the development of the country by paying their due taxes.

I believe that increased voluntary compliance is the future of tax compliance. Enhanced voluntary compliance will further help the Delhi Region to realize increased revenue potential. At the Income Tax Department, it has been our constant endeavor to incorporate technology to benefit our tax payers. Right from the introduction of e-filing, speedy processing of refunds, introducing form 26AS, online payment of taxes, online PAN and TAN applications , e-filing of appeals to conducting e- scrutiny assessments, we as a Department along with the citizens have a come a long way. In the future, we further hope to use technology to further increase transparency and efficiency. In continuation with this philosophy, I hope this website acts as a portal which enables the average tax payer and citizen to reach out to us.
